THE Heineken Hottest 7s in the World is taking on a distinctly Kenyan flavour. Not only will the Kenyan national squad compete at Austar Park this weekend but the East Arnhem Rugby Union sevens team will also feature a Kenyan player. Melbourne-based Kwenda Obudho will boost the EARU for the Hottest 7s starting on Saturday. "He has got a bit of speed about him," EARU coach Hayden Rickard said. Obudho pulled on an EARU jumper at the Singapore Sevens in 2008. "He went very well," Rickard said. "Defensively we've been quite good over the last year or so. "We have just been missing a bit of speed. That's why we've brought Kwenda in." The EARU was beaten by Casuarina in the Bowl final at the Singapore 7s last year. EARU is seeded 18th and plays 15th-seeded Darwin Dingoes - winners of last week's Casuarina Invitational 7s - in its first match. "It is a pretty tough game for us," Rickard said. "We will have a training on Friday and it just depends on how the guys jell. Our performance in Singapore indicated that we are going in the right direction. "Basically you are playing knockout rugby in the first games and the pressure is right on. "But if our boys stick to the game plan I am quietly confident." The EARU squad also includes two Fijians - Vili Lote and Peni Naqaravatu. "They have been doing some church work on Elcho Island and are only in Australia for three months," Rickard said. Queensland rugby league first-grader Jack Reis is also part of the squad. "He should be pretty good value for us as well," Rickard said. Tommy Gunn will captain the side. The teenage Gove centre impressed playing in the 2009 Darwin Rugby League competition with University, earning selection in the Country team. NT Mosquitoes scrumhalf Alex Munro and Mozzie utility back Ben Callaghan have also been named in the EARU squad. The match with Dingoes will feature two players named Callum MacDonald. The Dingoes' MacDonald plays on the wing for the Darwin Dragons while Gove's MacDonald, a flanker, was one of the NT's best schoolboy players in 2009.
